Overview and Challenges

This release of Adobe Survey focuses on facilitating data analysis and reporting. Judging from the needs of the major personas-marketers and web analysts, we want to provide users with initial stage and middle level analysis needs within the product, but also provides ways to exporting data if complex statistical analysis is needed.

The Journey

I started by collecting user stories on the whole process from the launch of survey to finishing the report in order to understand the whole context of data collection, analysis, and distribution. I interviewed users and studied their reports, and realized that the data analysis is more exploratory and unpredictable, but reporting on the other hand is more like telling a story with insights that derived from exploration. The design should account for both dynamic data experimentation and linear storytelling.

I explored ideas through sketches, and got user input on what analysis methods and chart types are appropriate for 9 different questions types. Designing the presentation of data, both in table form and graph form, is very interesting and challenging. I studied different examples, and strived to present data in an effective way. When the design was getting more solid, I built prototypes and conducted user testing, which informed future design iteration and refinements.
